Sen. Eldridge, Rep. Gentile, and Rep. Linsky Announce a $136,590 Grant for Congregation Or Atid

BOSTON — State Senator Jamie Eldridge (D-Marlborough), State Representative Carmine L. Gentile (D-Sudbury), and State Representative David P. Linsky (D-Natick) announced today that Congregation Or Atid, in Wayland, has secured a $136,590 grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) through the Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP), administered by the Office of Grants and Research.

The DHS’s Nonprofit Security Grant Program provides support for target hardening and other security enhancements and activities to nonprofit organizations that may be at high-risk for terrorist attacks. The program enables these non-profit organizations to direct funding towards security planning, security equipment, notification or warning systems, public address systems, security training and exercises, or contracted security personnel. Aside from the federally-administered NSGP, the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security (EOPSS) administers the Commonwealth Nonprofit Security Grant Program and the Commonwealth Nonprofit Security Personnel Grant Program, both with the same goal of enabling non-profit organizations to heighten their security. Applications for these Commonwealth-led programs are due October 13.

“This grant will enable Congregation Or Atid to better protect each and every member,” said State Senator Jamie Eldridge (D-Marlborough). “This will allow the congregation to practice their faith in a safe, secure environment. Ensuring that all of the Commonwealth’s citizens feel safe in expressing their religious identity is an essential priority, and I am extremely thankful to the Healey-Driscoll Administration for the grant.”

“At a time when antisemitism and hate crimes are at the highest level ever recorded in Massachusetts, we need to ensure our Jewish residents have the freedom to practice their faith safely. I am grateful that Congregation Or Atid will be able to better protect their congregation and I am thankful to DHS for the funding,” said State Representative Carmine Gentile (D-Sudbury).

“Congregation Or Atid is a vibrant part of our community, and I am thankful that this grant program will allow them to improve security and ensure the safety of their members,” said State Representative David P. Linsky (D-Natick). “I am deeply grateful to DHS and the Healey-Driscoll Administration for providing and administering this crucial funding.”
