Senator Eldridge Highlights Justice Reinvestment Grant Opportunities

Program will provide $15 million in funding for projects aimed at mitigating negative impacts of criminal justice involvement.

Boston, MA – State Senator Jamie Eldridge (D-Marlborough) announced today that he encourages all interested parties to examine and apply to the Community Empowerment and Reinvestment Grant Program. The program, administered by the Executive Office of Economic Development, seeks to fund projects that mitigate the negative impacts of criminal justice involvement. Funded projects will — through education, training, small business development, and other social support services — help individuals and families reduce justice system involvement and increase their economic empowerment.

“This is an incredible opportunity which will strengthen communities that have faced disproportionately high economic challenges as a result of the criminal justice system,” said State Senator Jamie Eldridge. “I want to thank the Healey-Driscoll administration for re-authorizing this grant. I encourage all interested parties to take a look at the program, and to apply for funding if applicable. The Community Empowerment and Reinvestment Grant Program is based on Justice Reinvestment legislation, to divert money saved from the reduction of incarcerated people in prisons, and invest in communities disproportionately impacted by the War on Drugs and mass incarceration.”

The program is specifically aimed at communities which have had high rates of criminal justice system involvement, widespread poverty, and a large population of disadvantaged and underrepresented peoples. The grant application for FY 2024-2026 closes at 5 PM on September 15, 2023.
