Senator Eldridge Secures $100,000 in FY24 Budget for MassEnergize
Funding empowers Energize Wayland to support and engage local residents to take household-level climate actions
BOSTON – State Senator Jamie Eldridge (D-Marlborough) announced that he secured $100,000 in the Fiscal Year 2024 Budget for MassEnergize, a climate-focused organization that empowers local communities to take household-level actions against climate change. The funding will empower Energize Wayland to support and engage Wayland residents to take climate action steps.
On July 31, the Legislature enacted a $56.2 billion budget for Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24), reconciling differences between the versions of the budget passed by the House of Representatives and Senate and earlier this year. Having passed the House of Representatives and the Senate, the FY24 budget now moves to the Governor’s desk for her consideration.
Headquartered in Concord, Mass., MassEnergize takes on the climate emergency by working with community organizers and local leaders to scale household and community-level climate actions. By propelling household-level climate actions and activating community networks, MassEnergize can further amplify climate goals and maintain constant support for combating climate change.
Energize Wayland, a MassEnergize community, is now more than halfway through its 2023 climate action goals, measured by individual actions, household actions, and carbon reduction impact. In 2023, Energize Wayland aims to encourage 1,200 Wayland households to collectively take more than 5,000 climate actions.
Across the Commonwealth, MassEnergize has engaged over 10,000 households in taking climate action. The organization boasts significant achievements: to date, households in the communities where MassEnergize works have completed over 34,000 climate actions, including installing solar, adopting EVs, replacing fossil fuel heating with heat pumps, performing home energy upgrades, and more.
“By providing a new platform that gives us opportunities to combat climate change at a community and household level, we can make a meaningful difference by starting small and scaling up,” said State Senator Jamie Eldridge (D-Marlborough). “MassEnergize’s work is critical for our climate. I thank my colleagues for joining me in supporting this great organization.”
“We have ambitious goals to reach if we are going to address the climate crisis in our state,” said Nathan Scott, Executive Director of MassEnergize. “We need all hands on deck. Thanks to the support from Senator Eldridge and other Massachusetts State legislators, MassEnergize will be able to engage more and more residents in taking meaningful climate action.”
