Sen. Eldridge, Rep. Gregoire, and Rep. Kane Announce $81,411 Grant to SEM in Westborough
Westborough-Based SEM Provides Critical Service in Document & Data Destruction
Westborough, MA – State Senator Jamie Eldridge (D-Acton), Representative Danielle Gregoire (D-Marlborough), and Representative Hannah Kane (R-Shrewsbury) announced that the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development has awarded SEM in Westborough an $81,411 grant through the Workforce Training Fund Program.
Funded by Massachusetts employers via unemployment insurance contributions, grants through the program aim to help companies improve productivity and competitiveness by creating new jobs, increasing skills and opportunities for workers, and maintaining the economic strength and viability of the Commonwealth’s businesses.
SEM has been a global leader in high-security information end-of-life solutions for over 50 years. The company has been the driving force behind document and data destruction with innovative solutions, including the industry’s most successful line of electronic media crushers and shredders.
“SEM plays an unparalleled role in the industry of secure data destruction,” said Senator Jamie Eldridge (D-Acton). “Through contracts with the military, government agencies, and the private sector, SEM provides a niche yet critical service. I thank the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development for their approval in offering this grant to SEM.”
“SEM has been a trusted leader in secure data destruction for half a century,” said Representative Danielle Gregoire (D-Marlborough). “This funding will allow them to continue this work through critical training and workforce expansion.”
“I am very pleased to see SEM awarded this grant and thrilled to see the growth of this leading company occurring in Westborough,” said Representative Hannah Kane (R-Shrewsbury).
The Workforce Training Fund Program allows companies to provide training for workers and create additional job roles. SEM’s grant is used to provide training to 27 workers; 6 additional jobs are expected by 2023.
