Senator Eldridge and Representatives Gouveia and Sena Announce a Grant for a Senior Affordable Housing Development in Acton

The Residences at Kelley’s Corner will create 31 units of housing for low and moderate-income seniors and disabled adults

Acton, MA - State Senator Jamie Eldridge (D-Acton), Representative Tami Gouveia (D-Acton), and Representative Danillo Sena (D-Acton) are happy that the Baker-Polito administration’s Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) announced an ~ $8 million grant for the town of Acton, to build The Residences at Kelley’s Corner by Common Ground Development Corporation, a non-profit developer that is part of Community Teamwork, Inc in Lowell. This grant is through tax credits and subsidy funds. 31 new affordable housing units will be built for seniors and disabled adults in Acton. Senator Eldridge and Representatives Gouveia and Sena had written a letter of support for the project in September 2020 to DHCD.

“This is exciting news for seniors and adults with disabilities in Acton,” said Senator Jamie Eldridge. “I want to thank the Baker-Polito administration for this affordable housing grant for Acton, and commend the Acton Select Board, the Acton Community Housing Corporation (ACHC), the Housing for All group, and Acton Town Hall professional staff for their strong support to build truly affordable housing in Acton.”

“This is such an important project for our town, and I am glad that our legislative delegation had the opportunity to support it,” said Rep. Tami Gouveia. “This project will help ensure that seniors and individuals with disabilities in our community have access to safe, humane, and affordable housing.”

"I am pleased to see more affordable housing being built for our seniors. This development addresses a serious need for seniors in our community at a time when housing availability and affordability is as important as ever,” said Rep. Danillo Sena.

The new construction project, called The Residences at Kelley’s Corner, will provide affordable housing units to adults aged 62 and older and to adults with disabilities. Units will be offered to those that earn less than 60% of the area median income (AMI), including 10 units reserved for seniors that earn less than 30% of the AMI. In accordance with DHCD policy, the project’s sponsor will also provide support services to residents.

DHCD will support the project through federal low-income housing tax credits and subsidy funds. Common Ground Development Corporation– a non-profit that builds affordable housing for first-time home buyers and preserves existing apartments at affordable rent levels– will serve as the sponsor for the project. Additionally, the town of Acton will support the project with its own funds.

“I am thrilled to hear that Common Ground Development has been awarded affordable housing grant funds,” said Town Manager of Acton John Mangiaratti. “The construction of the Residences at Kelley’s Corner will help to tackle Acton’s long wait list for seniors looking for safe, affordable housing options in the community.”

This grant is a product of a $46.1 million investment in affordable housing development by the Baker-Polito Administration, announced early March 2021. The investment will support 12 projects in 8 communities by providing state and federal housing tax credits, state and federal rental vouchers, and direct funds to support affordable housing development. 572 new housing units will be built in Massachusetts including 507 affordable housing units, 108 of which will be reserved for extremely low-income households.
