Senator Eldridge Awarded “Solar Supporter of the Year” by Solar Energy Business Association of New England (SEBANE)
BOSTON – State Senator Jamie Eldridge was among the 2 legislators who were presented with the “Solar Supporter of the Year - State Level” Award, along with Representative Carolyn Dykema, for his vision and leadership toward the advancement of the solar industry in Massachusetts over the past year. This prestigious award was given to him by SEBANE – the Solar Energy Business Association of New England.
“I am so honored to receive the SEBANE award for the Legislator of the year - Solar Leadership Award along with Rep. Carolyn Dykema, whom I’m proud to work with on many climate change and environmental initiatives. We need to continue pushing and advocating for solar energy as it is a major renewable energy source with the potential to meet many of the challenges facing the world. This is definitely one of the most prestigious recognitions I have received as a legislator. I’m humbled to receive it!” said state Senator Eldridge (D-Acton).
Senator Eldridge has continuously advocated for the proliferation of solar energy, filing four pieces of legislation this past year alone: S.1958 – An Act transitioning Massachusetts to 100 percent renewable energy, sets binding targets for renewable energy growth in all major sectors of the economy, and issue regulations to ensure that Massachusetts stays on track towards 100 percent renewable energy by 2045. S.1957 – An Act increasing solar rooftop energy - requires all new buildings to be built ready to accommodate solar panels. S.1955 – An Act relative to solar power and the green economy - addresses many of the equity and access issues that are in the Commonwealth’s current solar policy. S.1956 – An Act ensuring access to solar energy for all communities - ensures that all communities and households in Massachusetts, including underserved, low-income communities will be able to participate in and benefit from the transition to a renewable energy future.
As Co-Chair of the Green Energy Caucus, Senator Eldridge continuously engages with energy advocates and legislators throughout the nation in order to find a path towards a renewable energy future. He also hosts briefings to further educate his colleagues of the complexities in the solar industry and renewable energy sector, and provides a space to ensure that the student and minority voice is being heard and their requests acted upon within the state legislature.
