Senator Eldridge Proposes Multiple District Amendments to Transportation Bond Bill

Amendments propose highway overpass to replace Concord Rotary, new Ayer MBTA train station, and expanded parking at every commuter rail station in Middlesex & Worcester district.


Boston, MA - On Thursday, July 16th, State Senators will be debating S2813, An Act authorizing and accelerating transportation investment, the Transportation Bond bill, an $18 billion borrowing bill, for the next five years  The Transportation Bond Bill includes funding for improving and expanding the MBTA, fixing our roads and bridges, constructing rail trails and sidewalks, and improving Regional Transit Authorities (RTAs). State Senator Eldridge (D-Acton) filed amendments in advance of the Transportation Bond Bill, earmarking nearly $27.5 million for the Route 2 Concord Rotary, a new Ayer MBTA station and expanded commuter rail parking.

“While I continue to advocate for the State Senate to pass a robust progressive tax package that would include massive investments in transportation, I am grateful to Senate President Karen Spilka, Senate Ways and Means Committee Chairman Michael Rodrigues, and Senate Transportation Committee chair Joe Boncore for their important work on the Transportation Bond bill,” said Senator Eldridge.

Eldridge’s district earmarks amendments propose the following:

·       $20 million for MassDOT to completely re-design the Concord Rotary, including a Route 2 overpass (co-filed with Senator Mike Barrett)

·       $6 million dedicated to the construction of a new ADA-complaint Ayer MBTA train station, building upon the 2019 addition of the Ayer Parking Facility and Depot Square improvements going on now

·       $300,000 for expanded commuter rail parking for the MBTA train stations in Acton, Littleton, Shirley, Southborough, and Westborough.
