Senator Eldridge Secures $200K Earmark For Marlborough Boys and Girls Club in Supplemental Budget
Marlborough, MA – State Senator Jamie Eldridge (D-Acton) secured a $200,000 earmark for the Marlborough Boys and Girls Club in the Legislature’s Supplemental Budget, signed by Governor Baker on December 13th, 2019.
Last May, Senator Eldridge toured the Marlborough Boys and Girls Club, part of the Boys and Girls Clubs of MetroWest (BGCMW), and met with Executive Director Chris Duane, and Board member John Petrin. “After touring the building, it was clear that there were some improvements needed, including a new roof, room improvements, and upgrading the building, to better serve the kids who come here,” said Senator Eldridge. “I’m very happy to have secured this state funding for the Marlborough Boys and Girls Club, and appreciate the dedication of the club’s staff, board of directors, and volunteers. I’m also grateful to Senate Ways and Means Chairman Michael Rodrigues, for his commitment to ensuring every Senator was able to directly benefit his or her district.”
BGCMW provides youth development, education, and prevention, social, athletic and recreation programs to more than 3,200 at-risk youth annually in Framingham, Marlborough, and Hudson.
Chris Duane, President of BGCMW, stated, “it is our responsibility to ensure that we continue to be relevant, we inspire, and we empower our youth to achieve success.” By maintaining this building, there will continue to be a home for young people from disadvantaged economic, social, and family circumstances.
The Marlborough Clubhouse is the flagship Club and is a second home to more than 1,200 youth. The building is more than 90 years old and houses administrative offices, pre-school programs, youth basketball league, after-school drop in, and robust summer programming. As the primary concern is always for the health and safety of members, the Marlborough location requires significant facility work. Projects include updating deteriorated flooring, replacing the main roof, and installing new bathroom facilities.
This investment will modernize an old building, pay tribute to the 75 years of BGCMW, and ensure a stable home for future generations of Club members.
