In order to address the disparities in the impact COVID-19 has had on communities, the state has launched the Vaccine Equity Initiative. The initiative includes sending increased numbers of vaccines to the 20 cities and towns that have been hit hardest by COVID, in addition to increasing outreach and information about the vaccine and how to get it. For more information, visit the Vaccine Equity Initiative website

Governor Baker has announced the timeline for vaccine eligibility going forward, with all residents aged 16+ being eligible beginning April 19.

The Companion Program?

The companion program was created in order to help caregivers of people 75+ get vaccinated. This program is only allowed for people who accompany those who are 75+ at a mass vaccination site. Companions cannot be vaccinated retroactively. We immediately saw that there were many people who were trying to take advantage of this program and there were many concerns about scams and putting seniors in unsafe conditions. I’ve advocated to tighten the eligibility to actual caregivers or relatives to avoid these obvious problems that arose immediately.
