Senator Eldridge and Representative Arciero Announce $1.5M Grant to Littleton for the King Street Commons Public Infrastructure Project
Grant will provide funding for new housing, retail, and commercial development
Littleton, MA — State Senator Jamie Eldridge (D-Acton) and State Representative Jim Arciero (D-Westford) are pleased to announce a $1,500,000 state grant to the town of Littleton for the King Street Commons infrastructure project. The grant, awarded as part of the Commonwealth’s Community One Stop for Growth Program, will provide financial support to construct the space, which will be home to new multi-family homes and green spaces.
The project will transform the parking lot occupying the former IBM campus into a multi-purpose space that will include 12 new buildings used for residential, retail, restaurant, commercial, and medical purposes. The space will also feature safe pedestrian walkways, connections to Littleton Common, and a park with open green spaces and landscaping.
According to the Littleton Housing Authority, Littleton’s population is projected to increase by 1,000 every decade, and in 2030, the town’s population is expected to reach 11,000. Much of the new space will be dedicated to providing multi-family homes and affordable housing, as 78 affordable units are planned to be built at the site. The $1.5M state grant greatly facilitates the construction process for the new multi-purpose space expected to begin this year.
“I am pleased to announce this 1.5M grant to Littleton. The new King Street Commons will create more housing and job opportunities in Littleton and allow residents to enjoy new parks and open green spaces,” said State Senator Jamie Eldridge. “I extend my gratitude to the Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development for administering this grant to Littleton, and I am excited for the work on King Street Commons to begin!”
“It is an honor to work alongside Senator Jamie Eldridge to secure this critically important $1.5 million for the production of new housing and infrastructure to benefit the citizens of Littleton,” said State Representative Jim Arciero. “The former IBM campus being revitalized for new housing, retail space, and walkable commons is an exciting project that will help provide new economic growth and housing opportunities for the town.”
The MassWorks Infrastructure Program is a competitive grant program that provides capital funds to municipalities for public infrastructure projects and accelerates housing production, spurs private development, and creates jobs throughout the Commonwealth.
