Senator Eldridge, Representative Gregoire, and Representative Gentile Announce $2M Grant to Marlborough Economic Development Corporation to Rebuild Cedar Hill Street

State grant will be used to upgrade and widen Cedar Hill Street

Marlborough, MA - State Senator Jamie Eldridge (D-Acton), State Representative Danielle Gregoire (D-Marlborough), and State Representative Carmine Gentile (D-Sudbury) are pleased to announce a 2,000,000 grant to the Marlborough Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) to reconstruct Cedar Hill Street. The grant, awarded as part of the Commonwealth’s Community One Stop for Growth Program, will provide financial support for the improvement of a one-mile stretch of Cedar Hill Street.

The grant focuses on rebuilding and widening the one-mile narrow stretch of roadway on Cedar Hill Street, and the funding will go towards fixing the road’s poor condition. Cedar Hill Street, which is home to several industrial businesses, connects to Simarano Drive, providing interstate highway access. Repairing the road allows travelers to enter and exit Marlborough with ease.

According to MEDC, Marlborough has recently focused on improving the downtown area and supporting local businesses. The $2M state grant facilitates the construction of a new wider road to allow greater car traffic in and out of the city.

“Cedar Hill Street lies at an important regional intersection and is a popular road amongst Marlborough residents and visitors. This grant will allow the road to finally see the repairs it needs, and provide a pathway for Marlborough to continue to support and grow its local businesses,” said State Senator Jamie Eldridge. “I am grateful to the Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development for administering this grant to Marlborough and I thank the Marlborough Economic Development Corporation for their resilience!”

“This funding will go a long way in assisting the MEDC’s goals of supporting our small business community,” said State Representative Danielle Gregoire. “Repairing and widening this strip of road will ensure the City can accommodate the greater traffic flow utilizing this area.”

“Much of the city’s manufacturing and local industry is on Cedar Hill Street,” said State Representative Carmine Gentile. “Employees, customers, delivery drivers, and others need to be able to use the street without difficulty. This grant is a worthy investment for EOHED, and I have no doubt it will benefit Marlborough residents and businesses. Kudos to Mayor Vigeant and our MEDC for working together to help us bring these state benefits to the city.
