Senator Eldridge and Representative Hogan Announce $168,000 Grant for Open Table, Inc
Funding will increase storage and distribution capabilities for the Maynard-based non-profit
Maynard, MA – State Senator Jamie Eldridge (D-Marlborough) and State Representative Kate Hogan (D-Stow) announced that a grant amounting to approximately $168,000 has been secured for Open Table, Inc., a Maynard-based non-profit organization which aims at ending hunger in the local community by providing food in a way that respects the dignity and diversity of those who are being served. Open Table achieves this mission by preparing and distributing bags of groceries and providing prepared meals — ensuring that fresh goods are being served, and that a diverse range of culturally appropriate food choices are available. Open Table serves over 300 households a week with groceries, and provides over 800 prepared meals to clients.
The Food Security Infrastructure Grant (FSIG) Program seeks to ensure equitable food access for everybody in the Commonwealth by providing grants that help farmers, fishermen, and other local food producers be more interconnected with a strong, resilient food system. The grant issued to Open Table will be used to renovate their storage facility — thus increasing storage capacity as well as their distribution capabilities.
“Open Table provides an invaluable service to its clients in the diverse array of fresh, nutritious food options that they offer,” said Senator Eldridge. “I’m very thankful to the EEA for approving this grant, which will allow Open Table to expand their operation and help even more people in the local community.”
“Senator Eldridge and I have seen first-hand what state funds can do to help the food pantries in our districts,” said Representative Hogan. “When added to a successful program or strategy, these funds can spark further growth and reach more families and individuals in need of healthy food in central Middlesex county.”
