Senator Eldridge Highlights 4 Grants from the Baker-Polito Administration’s MassWorks Infrastructure Program for Towns of Acton, Ayer, Harvard and Westborough

Funds will be used for developments in housing, road safety, and public infrastructure.

Boston, MA – Senator Eldridge is proud to announce that the Baker-Polito administration has awarded MassWorks infrastructure grants to the towns of Harvard, Ayer, Acton and Westborough. The program aims to support and accelerate housing production, spur private development, and create jobs throughout the Commonwealth. The grants total $6.85 million.

Harvard received $1 million for road safety improvements, which include constructing a new drain system and rehabilitating 3,500 feet of roadway on Route 111 and along Slough Road.

Ayer was awarded $3.1 million for the West Main St. Public Infrastructure Project to improve sidewalks and construct a new water line that connects downtown Ayer and the Devens community at Grant Road, spurring housing development, bike lanes, and an improved business corridor.

Acton received $2.75 million for infrastructure to provide critical sewer and water improvements that will help support multi-family housing at Powder Mill Place, and an improved business corridor in South Acton.

Westborough received $1.28 million for roadway improvements to Flanders Road and West Park Drive including new sidewalks, crosswalks, ramps, and signals will significantly help reduce traffic congestion at the Westborough Office Park. These upgrades will allow the development of new office, retail and commercial space to proceed, creating more than 1,000 new jobs.

"I’m grateful to Governor Baker, Lieutenant Governor Polito, and Executive Office of Housing and Economic Secretary Kennealy for providing generous MassWorks grants that will make substantial infrastructure improvements in Harvard, Ayer, Acton, and Westborough,” said State Senator Jamie Eldridge (D-Acton). “It is critical that government invest in our communities that are committed to producing more multifamily housing, creating jobs, improving quality of life for its residents. I was proud to advocate for these grants in the Middlesex and Worcester district, and commend the municipal officials for successfully applying for these MassWorks grants.”

The MassWorks Infrastructure Program is a competitive grant program that provides the largest and most flexible source of capital funds to municipalities and other eligible public entities primarily for public infrastructure projects that support and accelerate housing production, spur private development, and create jobs throughout the Commonwealth. The program places particular emphasis on the production of multi-family housing in appropriately located walkable, mixed-use districts that result in direct and immediate job creation and/or that support economic development in weak or distressed areas.
