Senator Eldridge Secures $100,000 in FY21 Budget For Marlborough Community Cupboard

Acton, MA - State Senator Jamie Eldridge (D-Acton) secured funding for the Marlborough Community Cupboard FY2021 budget. As the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic continues to exacerbate food insecurity in our communities, supporting food pantries ensures access to fresh food otherwise lost due to job loss and reduced wages.

“I was very happy to secure $100,000 for the Marlborough Community Cupboard in the FY21 budget” said State Senator Jamie Eldridge (D-Acton). “Having my district office just down the hall from this food pantry for Marlborough residents, I see how hard Director Barbara LaGrenade and all the wonderful volunteers work to address food insecurity in Marlborough. This earmark will help the Marlborough Community Cupboard upgrade its freezers and refrigerators, flooring, food racks, and general support to ensure that no Marlborough family goes hungry, especially during the pandemic.”

$100,000 for the Marlborough Community Cupboard: The Marlborough Community Cupboard, a program of the United Way of Tri-County, provides groceries and produce to Marlborough residents, ensuring access to healthy items that may otherwise be too expensive in retail grocery stores. These funds will support building improvements due to increased client need and enhanced social distancing necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I can’t express how grateful we are for this much needed funding as our numbers have increased as a result of the Pandemic. They will allow us to serve our families far better in the future,” said Barbara LaGrenade Director of the Marlborough Community Cupboard.

“All of us at the United Way of Tri-County want to thank Senator Eldridge for his long-standing leadership and support. He continues to be there for us in the good and bad times.” said Paul Mina, President and CEO of United Way of Tri-County.

The FY2021 budget was passed by the Massachusetts Senate and House of Representatives on Friday, December 4th.
